Team

The project began with a small team consisting of the Head of Product, a Product Manager, and myself as Product Design Lead, eventually growing to include multiple engineering teams for both iOS and Android platforms. We also expanded the design team after launching our MVP, taking on two additional UX/UI designers.

Research

We spent three months exploring a range of potential solutions and leverage a scrappy approach of targeted social media adds and product landing pages to gauge market interest.

Feedback was gathered using targeted advertising for app concepts and in-person interviews and surveys, which revealed a high interest in features like bill splitting and personalized banking among younger demographics.

After finding that younger demos were much more likely to click-through and convert on banking, bill splitting and travel solutions we knew we wanted to lean in on a comprehensive solution for them.

The final concept was a full banking app designed to evolve with the user, starting with features like bill splitting and expanding to more sophisticated financial tools.

Solution

The solution was P.F.C. —an entirely new type of mobile banking product, tailored to younger demographics in The Nordics. P.F.C. began with a focus on simple features such as bill splitting —aimed at simplifying financial interactions among peers (a common pain point for the target users).

Recognizing the potential for broader impact, the scope was expanded to create a comprehensive banking app that included a debit card and a suite of features designed to grow with the user's financial journey. The app was designed to provide a personalized banking experience that could adapt to varying financial stages, from a teenager starting their first account to a more seasoned user managing complex financial activities. The design and functionality of P.F.C. were the results of an agile, user-driven development process, involving rapid prototyping, testing, and iteration, ensuring that the end product not only met current user needs but was also flexible enough to incorporate future enhancements.

By leveraging social media insights, guerilla user interviews, and interactive prototyping, the solution encapsulated a unique blend of desirability and functionality, ultimately achieving a product that resonated with users and stood out in the competitive landscape of mobile banking solutions.
